1. 研究目的与意义

Language is a social tool that produces and develops during the process of human beings#8217; productive labor and services. Its main function is communicating information. Language is the reflection of culture values and beliefs. People in certain culture think that the language itself can bring good luck and misfortune to them, so they have set some forbidden zones of language. They believe that people who go against these taboos will get the punishment they deserve. On the contrary, people who observe the taboos can be protected. This article analyzes the similarities and differences of taboos between Chinese and English languages . I hope that the study of this topic can help English learners understand two languages and the cultures . Also, they can improve intercultural communication competence and avoid communication failures. So they will achieve a satisfactory result.

3. 国内外研究现状

For a long time, linguists and scholars both at home and abroad have been studying linguistic taboos in Chinese and English respectively from different angles. So it is necessary to make an objective review of the studies on linguistic taboos and review in this paper in order to promote the development of linguistic taboos study. This paper will focus on the review of Chinese linguistic taboos in the study of foreign languages. Early study of linguistic taboos in foreign countries mainly relate to ethnology, anthropology and sociology. With the emergence and development of social linguistics, since the 1980 s, linguistic taboos phenomenon in the west have attracted more social linguists and researchers' attention. At the same time, Chinese scholars have been interested in the phenomenon of linguistic taboos. In 1991, Chinese folk lingo discussed taboo words as the form of folklore. In 1999, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press published Comparison of Chinese and English Customs. It did a comparative study on Chinese and English taboos. Study on the Topic of Human Linguistics, published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press in 2000, discussed the generation of taboo words in English and Chinese and the euphemism for replacing them.
