1. 研究目的与意义
Demotivation is the opposite of motivation. Exploration into learning motivation in second language learning field began in the late 1950s. Gardner and Lambert (1959) conducted their study on this issue in Canada and established a social-psychological model of motivation. After that, second language learning motivation has been widely studied. Dornyei (2001) concluded that demotivation is a salient phenomenon in L2 studies and that teachers have a considerable responsibility in this respect( p.155). Other scholars found that there are still other factors influence learning demotivation besides teachers.
2. 文献综述
The study of demotivation originated from western countries at the very start. Gorham Christophel(1992) conducted a questionnaire survey on 308 undergraduate students in Leeds, UK. They tried to find out reasons that stimulate and decrease students learning motivation.Oxford(1998) asked 250 students from American colleges and middle schools to review their five-year English learning experience in composition form. The experiment showed that students experience different degrees of demotivation in their learning process which mainly concentrated on the effects of teachers.
