1. 研究目的与意义

Language is not only a tool of communication and thinking, but also the carrier of culture with profound cultural connotation. Different languages contain colorful culture and reflect different ethnic customs, religious beliefs and life backgrounds. Nowadays, cultural convergence is a major trend in the development of human society, however, the differences of cultural cannot be ignored, and it brings a lot of trouble to translation, especially the translation of cultural-loaded words. Culture-loaded words refer to those that contain rich cultural connotations in their original meaning or conceptual meaning. The cultural-loaded words in Chinese are the embodiment of Chinese culture and Chinese language. For example, #8220;martial arts#8221; is a typical Chinese sport. This phrase is hard to understand for foreigners who never heard it before. Therefore, #8220;Wushu#8221; was born with a strong cultural flavor of China.Cultural-loaded words are the emphasis and difficulty in literary translation. The success or failure in literary translation depends largely on whether these words are treated properly. Among the translation techniques, both domestication and foreignization are helpful for translating cultural-loaded words. We must choose these two different ways to make these words better understood by target readers and keep the cultural flavor. Only by combining the two techniques together can we make Chinese literature with rich traditional cultural meanings be better delivered to the target readers.

Different cultures have different traditions and there are many ways of naming the everyday words people use. Also the same substance has different connotations in different cultures. For example, food, clothing, utensils, tools and so on are the characteristics of daily life. It is difficult to find such words in the target language. Mainly by comparing characteristics of China cultural words and the custom of target readers, this paper will find how to translate cultural-loaded words well with translation techniques of domestication and foreignization to both keep the original taste and flavor of Chinese works and help target readers get the key of Chinese culture. Examples of cultural-loaded words will be taken from classic Chinese literary works such as A dream of Red Mansions and Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk.AbstractKey words1.Introduction2.Domestication Theory 2.1 Introduction and rules of domestication theory 2.2 Translation of cultural-loaded words with domestication3.Foreignization Theory 3.1 Introduction and rules of foreignization theory3.2 Translation of cultural-loaded words with foreignization4.Comparison of effects of domestication and foreignization5.Conclusion6.Bibliography

3. 国内外研究现状

Chinese culture-loaded words refer to the words, phrases, or idioms symbolizing unique features of Chinese culture. There are many Chinese culture-loaded words in the process of reading or translating Chinese literary works, intercultural communication. It#8217;s accurate translation of Chinese culture-loaded words is conducive to the development of linguistic, and it is of vital importance for translation and intercultural communication(Hongman Li, A Comparative Study on English Translations of Culture-loaded Words in The Art of War, 2011). As cultural-loaded words carry a lot of Chinese characteristics, many translators in China have studied the translation techniques of cultural-loaded words from the perspective of domestication and foreignization. Most of them use a famous Chinese literature as an example to conclude their experience and ideas. In addition, from the perspective of domestication and foreignization, some experts also have more detailed studies. For example, they study the translation of domestication and foreignization under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, teleology, relevance theory and so on.Because of the great cultural differences between China and the western countries, although many Chinese experts have devoted themselves to translating Chinese cultural-loaded words as good as possible, it still lacks the attention of foreign experts. Being unfamiliar of Chinese tradition cultural and expression of Chinese language, it is difficult for them to study Chinese cultural-loaded words. With the imbalance of E-C translation dominating China now, it is of great urgency and necessity to translate more Chinese literary works abroad,in the context of cross-cultural communication, more emphasis should be put on the translation of Chinese culturally loaded words.
