3. 国内外研究现状
Wang Yan (2017) mainly studied the characteristics of American slang. Firstly, American slang is highly colloquial, non-standard informal language. Slang originates from colloquial speech; it is always related to convenience rather than to grammatical rules and specific laws. Slang is widely used in everyday, oral communications between friends and acquaintances. On some informal or private occasions, using slang can make your friend more relaxed. Secondly, slang is more vivid compared with formal language. You could express the same meaning with the standard language as well as slang. But using slang could make your speech more picturesque. Because it reveals the speaker#8217;s feeling or attitude implicitly. Wang Bin (2011) discussed the ways of translating American slangs in his paper Translation on American Slang from the Perspective of Culture. He makes study of the translation methods employed in the Chinese script of Friends and analyzes reasons for the different choices of translation methods. First is literal translation. Literal translation refers to translate a sentence originally, keep the original message form, including construction of sentence, meaning of the original words and so on. Translation would be fluent and easy to comprehend by target language readers. Literal translation is close to the original, lively and natural. It is acceptable. Free translation needn#8217;t pay attention to the form of the original, construction of the original sentences and so on. When using Free translation, translators must know the culture of both source language and target language, and have extensive knowledge. Fan Caixia (2001) attempted to approach American from cultural perspective as well as linguistic one in her paper American Slang as a Mirror of American Culture. In her paper, she gives a detailed description of American slang and generalized its characteristics which are embodied in American dominant culture. Gao Yuan(2014) aims at combining slang words translation with subtitle translation in her paper On the Chinese Translation of Slang in The Big Bang Theory Under the Guidance of Nida#8217;s Functional Equivalence Theory. She takes the famous American sitcom The Big Bang Theory as a typical example to analyze the Chinese translation version of slang words in it. After a relatively detailed research, the author classifies some typical examples and analyzes the Chinese translation of those slang words.
