1. 研究目的与意义
With the development of our material and spiritual life, film,as a common and well-adapted entertainment activity , is becoming one important part of our daily life to seek for relaxation. Apart from that ,Chinese films emerge unceasingly with the constant and sharp development of our country#8217;s comprehensive strength,Chinese excellent films are introduced to foreign countries as well that areraised and loved by foreign audience, which makes Chinese very proud of that.At the same time, foreign films are pouring into our Chinese film market unceasingly in recent years, especially the Hollywood films, which bring us infinite enjoyment. As a matter of fact, film is not only a part of our life,but also a kind of art, which functions not only at entertainment area but also at educational and commercial field.In the other words, film is thecombination of art and business and is one of the most influential forms of cultural communication.While a film title, being a symbol of a film, becomes the key link to catch the eyeballs of the audience to make audience remember the film,in addition,a film title is capable of enhancing the commercial value of the film.Therefore,a film title has become the indispensable consisting element of a film and the translation of film title seems to be quite important which has aroused great interests of translators.As we all know, film title is also a part of the social language, so it is certainly related to the aspects of social culture, such as politics, economics,history, religion, etc.Therefore,how to bridge the comprehension gap of the audiences from different cultural background is crucial to film title translation.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
This thesis is intended to give an analysis on how the film title translation is influenced by the cultural difference such as religious beliefs,historical background and ways of thinking through plentiful examples. These elements that influence film title translation will make the translation more remarkable which are displayed mainly by Chapter 3.The followed chapter will focus on the influence of film title inter-translation including both good and bad aspects. Next chapter will show the methods that used frequently in the process of translation like literal translation,free translation,transliteration and Filling translation.The next chapter is about the personal advice on the translation of the film title to explore the proper strategies of film title translation.For example,I make the discussion about the issue that what we should really pay attention to when doing the translation work.We should abide by the principle that we should make analysis of concrete problem and make adjustment according to the actual situation.And the last chapter is about the summary of the thesis,including the main context,personal suggestions and the expectation.
3. 国内外研究现状
Professor Ning He,from Nanjing University,pointed out that there are two types of schools in general over the past sixty or seventy years#8217; change and development, one of them is based on the art of recreation,which emphasizes the spirit of flexible equivalence ; the other one focus on following closely to the original context,emphasizing the literal translation as well as formal equivalence. However,the development of these two translation trends is unbalanced, in the 1930s and 1940s title translation tended to the former, and when times went into the year after 1980s, the two trends were leading.
The other professor hold the view that although the translation of English film titles has its particularity, it can not be completely separated from the original text, creating on their own, what we should pay attention to is translating based on the original title, make the right translation. Otherwise,it will be wild and making irrelevant answer. Secondly, as the title translation, it not only requires to convey both the spirit and the connotation,but also requires the translator to understand the the content of the film comprehensively and deeply . And because the film title is concise most of the time, and there is a lot of film titles named after names and places,which requires the translator to further enhance mutual understanding and make their own initiative based on accurate understanding of the original content of the film, so that the translation is faithful to the original and to convey the content of the film or tone truly and vividly. Apart from that,A comparative study of the translation of film titles between three sides of the Taiwan Straits,written by Fasheng Mao,pointed out that Chinese is one of the official languages of Hong Kong. But because of the special historical reasons, Cantonese dialect is still widely used in Hong Kong, which causes the difference in pronunciation of Chinese and Cantonese.Taiwan area,due to long-term separation with the mainland and lack of cultural exchanges between the two sides, lead to the differences between the two sides, on the three. Although the two sides of the three places of the people are Chinese and they all useChinese,but the difference is still exist in transliteration.In comparison, Hong Kong#8217;s translation generally tend to civilians and colloquial
Qixiang Zhou,who wrote Four basic principles of film title translation,pointed out the principle that translation should be followed.First is the principle of information,which meansliteral translation and the biggest advantage is that it can not only keep the original title of the original but also reflect the work of the original appearance of the wind. The second is Cultural Principle.The success of film translation should faithfully convey the reporting of another language cultural information.The third is Aesthetic Principle.The formal beauty of film title mainly refers to the phonological beauty of the title, while the content beauty includes the aesthetic features of artistic conception beauty, popular beauty and novel beauty.The last one is Business Principles.Hong Kong scholar James Wong once said: advertising translation is a kind of communication method which drummed into no meaning original deliberately because of the actual needs. And it is different from the kind of literary translation that keep strictly to the author''''s original intention.Therefore, as the film title translation of advertisement translation,what we need is to make superficial changes to adapt to the local market, not only do not like the form, spirit are also different.
