1. 研究目的与意义

Sciencefiction is a significant genre of modern literary works in the West, but notwidely prevalent among Chinese readers, until the publication of The Three-BodyProblem written by Liu Cixin, the representative of “hard” science fictionwriter who brought Chinese science fiction to a world level with his novelabovementioned. On August 23, 2015, in the 73th World Science FictionConvention, the Three-Body Problem (translated by Ken Liu) was awarded HugoPrize for “the best novel”, which was also the first time this award goes toAsia. Despite the prominence of Liu Cixin’s work, credit should also be givento Ken Liu, the translator.

Adistinguished characteristic of science fiction is the massive surge ofneologisms. According to a survey conducted by Gary Westfahl, an Americanscholar, after polling scientific masterpieces of Isaac Asimodo and WilliamGibson, etc., it was found that there was one neologism in every 794 words.Peter Stockwell also backed up this point. He claimed that the neologismsdepicted in science fictions are much more than in any other literary genres.Besides, as Newmark proclaimed, during the course of translation, whatchallenges translators most may be the translation of neologism(2001:140). So,it is highly necessary to study C-E translation of science fiction neologismsfor the internationalization of Chinese science fictions.
