1. 研究目的与意义

In recent years, interest in the philosophy of the family has increased so much that family ethics is now an important and definitive part of moral and political philosophy. The increasing attention may in part reflect the actual changes in the family as a social institution over the past few decades. Although the traditional family remains ideologically dominant, it has been replaced to varying degrees in many countries by a variety of different forms of the family, raising even more difficult ethical questions in the coming decades.

Khaled Hosseini, the bestselling author, has written a new novel about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations-And The Mountains Echoed. Like his previous novels, the central story focuses on the non-romantic love between family members. The central story is about Abdullah and Pari, their separation and reunion after almost sixty years. In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe - from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos - the story expands gradually outward, becoming more emotionally complex and powerful with each turning page.

Besides, the novel shows us a new perspective in family ethnic issues and leaves a profound influence on other writers. It shows the author''s conception of war and family. In this work, family is still the subject of Hosseini''s attention and contrast. He said, ‘The writing of the book And the Mountains Echoed started with the concept of family. In fact, the most important theme that my writing continues to involve is Family. Putting aside the clue of family, I can hardly understand myself, the people around me, and my place in the whole world.’ Therefore, throughout the novel, Hosseini has always been closely linked to the most basic and basic human survival. The most important theme-the gains and losses of family ethical relations, shows the world the family tragedies caused by the lack of family affection and love, which caused the protagonist''s ethical consciousness to be blurred or even lost, and portrays the full and vivid emotions. Characters, and they finally get ethical awakening due to the power of family affection and love, and build a happy and harmonious family.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

This novel takes the joys and sorrows of three generations of The Pari family as the clue, and depicts the historical changes of Afghanistan in the past 60 years through the struggles of people from different ages and different regions. From the perspective of family ethics, this paper presents the family relationships among different characters in the work as a whole, and analyzes and interprets the theme of the work from three groups of different family ethics identities. The lack of ethical identity in the family of the characters in the novel awakens their ethical consciousness and makes them obtain higher love and responsibility. The family ethics information involved in the work is inextricably linked with the ethical problems existing in modern families. Especially when people fall into ethical dilemma, this kind of connection can urge people to put love and responsibility in the first place and reflect on their own ethical value.

The first chapter focuses on the analysis of family ethics theory and its definition. The second chapter analyzes the family ethics identity and the growth experience of the specific characters. The third chapter focuses on the awakening of the character''s family ethics consciousness. In the end, it is summary of the whole essay, which inspires us how to seek the correct ethical identity and ethical awareness in the construction of modern family ethics, so as to build a happy family.

3. 国内外研究现状

By searching domestic and foreign literature databases, I found that most researchers'' research on And the Mountains Echoed mainly focuses on immigration literature and cross-border culture, while there are few issues concerning family ethics in the works. Hosseini''s domestic and foreign research is insufficient. From the perspective of the selection of research objects, the research and interpretation of a single text focuses on the first novel Kite Runner which has a huge impact on the world and is adapted into a movie. The domestic research on And the Mountains Echoed mainly analyzes the angle of cultural identity and the author''s home country. First of all, Hosseini is able to extract the most moving cultural characteristics of Afghanistan to express his homeland feelings. Hosseini once said, “As a novelist, my mission is to write stories to the best of my abilities and to describe Afghanistan responsibly with the principles of justice and fairness.” It gave me a deeper thinking about the real world. Chen Qian’s essay, Breakthrough and Return: And the Mountains Echoed and Hosseini’s View of Home and Country' (published in Masterpiece Appreciation, 2014 Issue 18) examines Hosseini’s view of home and country in more details. The theme of his work is of great help. But at the same time, there is almost no ethical research involving the author''s latest work And the Mountains Echoed. The application of literary theory and critical methods is not broad enough, and the depth of academic theory needs to be explored.

Therefore, this thesis aims to use family ethics theory to analyze the characters in 'And the Mountains Echoed', and in turn analyze the ethical identities and ethical consciousness of the main characters in the works, thereby betraying and redeeming the ethical identities among family members Deeply criticized and interpreted the pursuit of goodness and love in the author''s theme, providing readers with another perspective to understand the connotation of the work, and at the same time, it is hoped that readers can have a deeper thinking about the construction of family ethics.
